The brain is the organ we sometimes forget to take care of also.  We hear about heart health, skin care, and gut health.  But we also need to focus on keeping our brain healthy since it is the control center of our entire body.  Here are the three top quick and easy ways to help your brain:

Drink more water
Eat the right fats
Move your body

1. Drink more water

The brain is made up of 80% water and plays an essential part in its function.  When we are dehydrated, we can reduce our sense of well-being and significantly reduce our performance and learning and affects our mental health.  The average human body can lose up to 2 liters of water a day through the lungs when we exhale water vapor, through the skin as sweat, and through urine.  Drink half of your body weight in fluid ounces every day and also eat more fruits and vegatables which they can be up to 95% water composition.

2. Eat the right fats

The brain is made up of 60% fat, which includes saturated fats and cholesterol.  We used to be told all fats are bad for our health, but that is simply not true.  The brain is needs essential fatty acids to function like Omega-3 and Omega-6.  Our bodies cannot make these fats, and need to be ingeste by the foods we eat.  Consume fatty fish like sardines and salmon, tree nuts like pecans and walnuts, seeds like sunflower seeds, and use olive oil or avocado oil for cooking.

3. Move your body

Studies show that moderate exercise can massively reduce depression, anxiety, and stress.  Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and reduces stress hormones like cortisol that are responsible for increased symptoms of depression and anxiety.  Shoot for 30 minutes a day of moderate aerobic activity meaning you can still hold a conversation .  Activities such as walking, biking, and dancing are great ideas.

Adding these few simple things to your daily life can help you feel better, have better focus and concentration, and live an enjoyable life!
